A live stream is only as good as the path carrying it out of the building. Venue Wi-Fi is not that path. AVP.Live builds independent, redundant connectivity for every stream we care about, which is all of them: bonded cellular, Starlink, and backup encoders, planned before anyone hits record.

What it is and why it matters

Everything else on a broadcast has a backup. The camera has a second camera. The recording has a second recording. But at most events, the entire show funnels through one connection nobody tested: the venue's internet, shared with a thousand phones, managed by an IT department that finds out about your event on the morning of.

That single point of failure is the most common way live streams die, and it is entirely preventable. Event networking is the discipline of building the show its own way out of the building: independent of the house network, redundant by design, and tested before doors.

Two tools carry most of the weight, and they're worth understanding in plain terms:

- Bonded cellular combines multiple cell carriers into one uplink. If one carrier's network chokes, which happens the moment a crowd arrives, the others carry the load. The stream rides all of them at once, not whichever one has bars. - Starlink is satellite internet that works where cellular doesn't: rural venues, dead zones, parking lots, fields. It gives us a path that ignores the local towers entirely.

Run together, they give the broadcast two ways out of the building that fail for different reasons. That's the definition of a real backup: paths that don't share a weakness. Add backup encoders, so the device creating the stream is redundant too, and the chain has no single point of failure left.

If you remember one thing: never let your most visible deliverable depend on infrastructure you don't control and never tested. We don't.

How we run it

Site survey first

Before show day, we measure what the venue actually has: real bandwidth, cellular signal by carrier, sky view for satellite, and where the network hardware lives. Venues describe their internet optimistically. We test it.

Venue-IT coordination

When the house network is worth using, we coordinate with venue IT in advance: dedicated bandwidth, wired drops, ports and priorities agreed in writing before load-in. When it isn't, we say so early and plan around it.

Primary and backup, engineered

Every stream gets a designed path and a designed backup that fails differently, sized to the event's stakes. This is part of the engineering review every AVP.Live show gets. Our engineering discipline

A production network, not a shared one

Cameras, control, and comms ride our own switched network, separate from anything the public touches. Nobody's phone competes with your program feed.

Encoders in parallel

On critical shows, redundant encoders run simultaneously on independent paths, so a hardware failure is a switchover, not an outage.

Monitored all show

Path health, bandwidth, and stream delivery are watched by an engineer for the entire event, with failover procedures decided before doors, not during the crisis.

  4. A written plan and one price, with the primary path and the backup named.
  5. You book the date. The connection becomes our responsibility.

Questions we get asked

Our venue says their internet is fast. Isn't that enough?

Sometimes, and the survey will tell us. Speed on a quiet Tuesday is not speed with a full house, and speed is not a stable path with guaranteed upload. If the house network passes, we still bring a backup. If it doesn't, you'll know weeks out, not at doors.

Can you really stream from a field or a building with no internet at all?

Yes. Bonded cellular covers most venues; Starlink covers venues cellular can't. The survey confirms which combination your site needs.

What is bonded cellular, in one sentence?

Several carriers' networks combined into one uplink, so the stream rides all of them at once and survives any one of them failing.

Do you coordinate with our building's IT department?

Yes, and early. Where the house network plays a role, we agree on drops, bandwidth, and firewall rules in writing before load-in. Corporate IT teams tend to like us; we ask the questions they wish every vendor asked.

Does all this redundancy make sense for a small event?

The tier scales. A small webcast might carry a single bonded uplink as its backup; a PPV runs parallel encoders on independent paths. What never changes is that something is the backup. Streaming with no second path is the one configuration we won't sell you.

Are you insured, and can you meet vendor requirements?

Fully insured, with W-9 and COI available on request. Venue vendor paperwork is routine for us.
